On Reducing the Energy Use of Houses

How about making the heaters and coolers more efficient along with the insulation.

Multi family buildings are overheated because they cannot communicate and the repairs are not kept up.

We take the excess heat out of those buildings.

On IBM’s Dave Bartlett Talking Smarter Buildings

IBM , Honeywell Bac Net all have stuff to put in .  At what price.  For a bigger building it will pay for itself.

But we all know the little buildings are where most of the energy is wasted.  The older multifamily buildings.  There is a need for simple control.  Small retrofit, cheap controls will do the major job of reducing waste and poor air quality.  I see it every day.  I do it every day.  I have to tell you it is a quiet life when you save energy in buildings everyday.  It is however the most productive work I have ever done.  Most customers forget about you.  It is like the doctor helping you to walk again after his surgery.  Do we ever call them a year later to just say thank you.  Probably not.  So it is when you save energy.  You do it for your self.  The customer gets the payback.  You get the inner smile.

On No Matter How You Slice It, Energy Efficiency A Good Thing.

This argument is made for heating and Air conditioning.  As equipment is now 20-30 % more efficient when replaced, f0olks do make the thermostat a few degrees mor cpmfortable.  They do not raise the thermostat 20% however.

Buildings can save 5-25 % easilly with better retrofit controls.  They are doing it.  How do you rebound that waste recovery.

Eventually folks will get over the savings phenomenon and settle back into their routine.

The exception.   KIDS will bomb around in their cars till the allowance is gone.

On Waste Management earns its name

Lip service.  The only method is source separation.  Reduce, reuse and recycle.  Anything that ends up in a landfill is waaste.  Waste management is ajoke.  Nothing is waste.  Waste Mangement is simply seeing the proper direction.  Stuff should never reach there hands. Waste is waste. We have not recycled enough.  That science is so totally behind the times.  We once asked Budweiser if they could make their bottles clear colored.  They said not without compromising taste.  So how do the other guys do it.  Beer is Beer. Corporate Power and political influence of corporate power will maintain the status quo, with advertising.  See how coke and Pepsi make soada sexy?  Illusions all.

On A new energy conversation?

Lets remember energy is a little like eating food.  We need it all.  Too much of anything will not give balanced nutrition.  So when the wind does not blow the blades are not a waste.  When it is daytime we still pay interest on the light poles.  Atomic engines are great, but will they do everything?  Lets massage the ingredients and we will see how the meat loaf changes as we repeat our applications.  Everything is a work in progress. We can change the color of the paint as we go along.  The dominance of government, politics and power of large vested interests that can pay for power in government is the big monkey in the room.  We have to get it out so we can begin to think clearly.  The chart is just an example of how misdirected government can be. Look at what they have gradually and deliberately done to our national finances.  All that money and bebt, that goes to the coffers of all the big corporations, that can afford to avoid taxes.  Hello out there??

On A new energy conversation?

"No one asked for the microwave oven. No one asked for the PC. No one asked for instant messaging. Most of innovation is asking the right questions."

The problem becomes, How do you get the funding decision makers to recognize the observations of others, who may understand the problem.  When you present to them the answert is, " You may have somethging there. I don't get it. Good luck. What time is my flight out of here?"

You have to deliver your ideas* in a 10 minute presentation along with 25 others and a bunch of venture capitalists decide if you know anything.  Talk about wearing the right tie!

On A new energy conversation?

You too.  I don't even open the invitations any more.  Everyone is talking about nothing or how they can screw the system for their own company or hedge fund.  Such a bore.  No sollutions, just angles on the profits. How about the people* that are there because they were sent or they have to be there, or folks will think they are not ready to take the bucks.  Amazing!

On Closing the Energy Innovation Gap

Good question.  I always thought it was a method to transfer electrical distribution of power to go arround or avoid brown outs.  Maybe i'm wrong?  The meaning of things change by the change in the Author.

Good question.  If we do not know we should ask a question.

On Closing the Energy Innovation Gap

Jon.  You are a breath of fresh air. I weas really close to thinking I am the crazy one.  It is said by some wise folks that objectivity is when more than one person observes something, and they both have the same observations.  Absolutely! Absolutely!  Hurray!  There is reason in the Universe.  The young lady that wrote this article identifies one very good problem.  Capitol is misdirected by young spread sheets out of business school, most of whom have never had a creative idea about a real problem in their lives.  Just talk to one.  You will vomit. Yet government surrounds itself with these clowns.  Look at what they did with Wall Street.  Oh yeah they are smart.  That's why the other crooks hire them.  They make good crooks too.  Just pay them so they don't leave.  The formula works. " Give me my big SUV, and a 4 million dollar house in Armonk.  That's what matters."

Yes the system is very broken.  Government and their leaders in Industry have become too big and too intransient.

On Break Down Bureaucracy to Get Breakthrough Technologies

Nice try.  The motivation and imagination is not there.  You should sit down with these guys.  They are not allowed to stretch.. They are limited by bosses, grants, money, politics, budget, nonsense they have to do to continue to come to work.  Do you know the one single fact that has made IBM as profitable as it is.  Over 50% of the staff works on their own time from home.  It's a 24-7 operation and everyone is in the creative mode with a positive attitude and small group management system.  Simple stuff like that finds the problem and has the space to come up with the solution.  As long as the Pentagon is run by top down stars and the energy department is ruled by corporate agendas, you will find little innovation anytime soon.  Besides, if they come up with the solutions, then they are out of a job.  Been there?

On Report: A Carbon Price Won't Get You Breakthrough Innovation

The premise is polluted by the influence of power.  With the societal limitations put on innovation by large corporations that control innovation by their own internal goals and the arrogance of fat cats in government who are motivated by pensions and hypochondria addiction, the room for real innovation is almost hopeless, unless you are in that class.  That's right folks the social class of the bureaucrats that have nothing to gain or lose other than their own paycheck.  Work in either institution an you soon learn to "stop that", when innovation comes to you from within or without.  In government the reply, is " You kidding.  Not here."  In corporate world. "Is that on our agenda?"  Dare that anyone should rock the boat.  Especially in these times when these clowns have already exported their own jobs.  It just hasn't caught up with them yet.  In these settings the rule is, " Any new idea is useless, unless the boss thought of it.  If he thought of it it must be good.  Just ask him."

The price of energy should naturally invoke motivation to create new solutions.  after all, " necessity is the mother of invention."  Price creates the necessity to conserve expensive resources.  But in Corporate America, it is an opportunity to create an inflationary environment, which allows the corporation to increase price and therefore profits.  "He who does not know history is doomed to repeat it."

Non sense.  Get the power to the creative and let the problems be solved.  " Government is there to do what we cannot do as a collective.  They are our representatives to get our job done.  Corporations are PAC men designed to eat the world. Inventors are folks who see problems in advance and have the ability to dream the process to solution.  To quote Peter Drucker, " Solutions are easy.  It's the problem that we have to recognize."

On Why We Must Still Innovate Around ALL Forms of Energy Supplies

We are not emphasizing conservation enough.  The problem is, How do you show a person money saved?"  They just spend it on something else. "Consumer"  The mind set of doing more than one thing on a car ride, or turning off the lights, has to have a positive physical effect in the brain.  Turning down the heat or AC when leaving the house for a while is habit only if you feel a phtsical resonse.  A feeling will do.  When a person installs a more efficient appliace or heating and cooling unt, do they appreciate the physical advantage every day.  They shoul.  We must find a way to make this impulse real from birth, in the home, in the classroom, at the cocktail party.  Folks love to talk about new found profits from their investments in land, real estate, the stock market.  What about the before tax savings you make in conserving on expensive energy.  Just as we need to think about our diet when we belly up to the food court, we need to think about our energy diet when we step on the gas, turn a light switch.  We need to think energy when we buy a car, install an appliace, or take a trip.  We need to give real currency to energy conservation.
