On Did Fracking Cause 12 Earthquakes in Ohio?

Geoffrey,

I agree one of the major lessons is exercising more caution regarding drilling and injecting substances near fault lines.  But, this story continues to highlight a major question for hydraulic fracturing -- how do you dispose of the toxic chemicals associated with the process.

The title of my post was changed by the editor.  My original title, as it reads on EnergyBoom is: Fracking: Ohio Establishes Tough Regulations After Disposal Wells Cause 12 Earthquakes.  I never claim that fracking caused the earthquake, but that earthquakes were caused as a result of the process.

On Nevada Geothermal Power's Revenue Jumps 100% Over the Last Year

Hi Bill,

Nice catch. Indeed, I meant 75%.

Thanks for helping to clarify that. I have corrected the error.

Cheers, Nathanael

On Pennsylvania Natural Gas Blowout Spills Thousands of Gallons of Toxic Wastewater into Local Community

I don't think the link is that slanderous.  They both produce hazardous by-products to human health.  And there are energy sources that can be further developed which don't offer such risks.

On Revolt in Libya and Potential Unrest in Middle East Push Oil Prices into "Danger Zone"

Geoffrey,

Thanks for your comments.  I am by no means an expert it oil market, although I have acquired a passion for greater understanding of the complex subject; so, I appreciate your numbers, analysis, and commentary.

And, from your comments about just how much the price of oil would have to rise to get there, I believe these opinions reflect a serious amount of fear the growing unrest in North Africa and the Middle East is generating in the Western markets and politics.

Even more, such a situation speaks to the importance of energy independence. In my opinion, it is time for politics to catch up with reality -- we are entering a new energy economy, which oil will surely be a part of, that requires a new set of priorities, policies, and technologies.

On Interpreting the Election Results

Great piece.  Opened my eyes up to some possibilities I did not consider in such a bleak picture for new energy policy.

My question is how much pain will need to be felt before action is taken on national stage in regard to developing a new energy economy?

On A New Solar Boom: U.S. Government Approves Largest Solar Project to Be Built on Public Land

Thanks for these comments, Nathan.  I was unaware that Solar Millennium had not qcquired any funding.  To me, that seems like the starting point for a project.  It will be interesting to see if they can get their ducks in a row by December.

Why are towers able to heat molten salts hotter than parabolic troughs?
