"The Yale study revealed that the public supports alternative energy across the board (which has not always been the case)..."
The link to the Yale study is non-functional, so I do not have access to the question which was asked to assess public support for alternative energy. However, my experience with such questions is that the "verbal" response to such questions is typically about 3 times more positive than the "open the wallet" response. "Verbal" virtue is free. "Purchase" virtue has a price.
David Lewis says:
Your example of what happened after the Prague Spring leaves out what happened after that: the Soviet Union itself lost the last shred of legitimacy it had in the minds of its own citizens, the regime was swept away, and the Czechs and everyone else in Eastern Europe got more than what they said they wanted that time when Soviet tanks snuffed out a previous effort.
I heard Gore interviewed publicizing this latest effort of his. Presumably because of the current publicity and discussion around the Keystone XL pipeline project (which would facilitate more use of tar sand oil in the US), he shovelled out his well worn lie (first published in his book Our Choice) that if you use gasoline refined from tar sand oil in a Prius, you give it the climate impact of a Hummer.
I guess he will never understand how much damage he does to himself and this cause when he does things like this.
Regarding your ideas about the current state of climate debate and what to do:
I've been participating in this debate and taking action since 1988. One thing I did that I think was worth doing was to give voters a choice, back then, to vote for stabilizing the composition of the atmosphere. My entire efforts appear to have amounted to nothing. I'd do it all again.
Do whatever you feel is the best contribution you can make.

It seems Reuters has just finished a poll that shows the tide may be turning, in part because Republican presidential candidates have gotten so far off base on social issues that people are beginning to think harder about their entire platform: http://in.reuters.com/article/2011/09/16/idINIndia-59381520110916Recommended to follow
