  • Volkswagen showed a Golf TDI Hybrid concept car at the Geneva car fair. The diesel engine is a 74 horsepower 3-cylinder 1.4l unit connected with a 27-horsepower electric motor powered by a NiMH battery. In contrary to other hybrids using a CVT gear box, the Golf Hybrid will use the recently launched 7 speed robotic gear box (DSG). The Golf TDI Hybrid is a full hybrid, so it can run on diesel, electric, or a combination of the two and has also a stop/start system which automatically cuts down the engine at e.g. traffic lights. The Golf TDI Hybrid concept car will be launched together with the Golf VI next year.
