Well today the answer is in: not bloody likely.
We came across this gem at The National Review, ridiculing Barack Obama's claim that if Americans would fill their tires to the correct pressure they could save as much fuel as could be produced by offshore drilling.
Depending on how you choose to do the math, you might or might not think Obama's statement was accurate. And proponents of more domestic drilling are only too happy to focus on such trivia, because it distracts the public from the big picture: efficiency and conservation are where it's at.
America's reluctance to embrace these simplest approaches to our biggest problems is just mind boggling. Is it because insulation isn't as sexy as solar thermal? Is it because we're ashamed to be seen in small cars? Did Jimmy Carter ruin cardigans for us forever?
But the cure is on the way. Once energy prices catch their breath and resume their upward climb, efficiency will become the most sought after gal in town.
