As Neven points out today, things are cookin’ on top of the planet.
In particular, check this photo from one of the two Arctic cams I like to follow:

According to the NPEO Home Page, camera 2, the source of the above image, is currently at roughly 88.3° North.
There’s no need to freak out. All that water you see is surely nothing more than surface melt on top of a few meters of ice; the Arctic hasn’t degenerated that far (yet). But go read the post by Neven I linked to above, as he shows just how quickly things are going kablooie on top of our one and only planet.
