The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act - "the stimulus package" to us common folk - includes a slew of economic incentives for homeowners looking to save money by making their homes more energy efficient.

But the clock is ticking: the 2009 deadline for energy efficiency improvements eligible for the tax credit is December 31. So take advantage of that big, fat, whopping tax credit on your 2009 taxes (30% of eligible costs, up to $1,500). You will also get the best performance out of your house this winter.  If you want to apply a tax credit against your 2009 taxes, however, you must act before year end.

We all know by this point that energy efficiency is the quickest, easiest way to reduce carbon emissions while saving money and creating healthier, more comfortable living spaces at the same time.  Now, with a tax break to add to that list of benefits, it's a no-brainer.

Here's how to get started:
In honor of the upcoming deadline, we'll be publishing a series of posts this week about taking advantage of the tax credit for energy efficiency, compiling the best-of-the-web resources on the topic, discussing the economics of various projects, and detailing the products in our store that qualify for the tax credit - what they are, what they cost, what they'll do, and how to use them.

Check back this week for more info, and make sure you let us know how it all works out.
