A ten year old kid from Maine named Samantha Smith is credited with helping end the cold war by writing a letter to then Soviet president Yuri Andropov asking if he was going to start a nuclear war with the United States. He responded by inviting her to tour his country, a visit that resulted in an unlikely friendship and a fresh way of looking at a man - and a country we’d grown to perceive exclusively as a threat. The year was 1982, a time when many of us had dire thoughts in our minds that we were afraid to talk about.
We’ve got new dire thoughts now. We are uneasy about about the ramifications of our dependence upon foreign oil, we are concerned about climate change, and we are conscious of the impact of our carbon footprint. We are far from helpless this time, and here at Energy Circle, we think kids hold the key to helping us look at conserving energy and sparing the planet with fresh eyes.
Yesterday, we unveiled a Moolah Maker, a tool that makes keeping track of energy use easy, and turns the process of saving energy into a game that joins parents together with kids - to see who can save the most watts and have the biggest impact. (Yeah, everybody wins. But you don’t have to admit it).
Please check out the Moolah Maker and let us know what you think.
Do you think your kid can save the planet? We do.
