One of the themes of our book is the coaching for Project Managers to get themselves “smart” – or should we say “smartER” (that’s the regular SMART plus Environmentally Responsible).  But we recommend this not only for altruistic reasons.  We preach the idea of SMARTER because we assert that it will help you in your career.  greenwave2We say that you can “avail yourself of the green wave”.

Well, that green wave we discuss in the book – it rolls right on.

Check out these two stories, for example:

This Reuters story talks about the tripling of the Low-Carbon market.  In it, HSBC analysts express their expectation that this market will  likely treble to $2.2 trillion, implying global annual market growth of 7-11 percent from 2009-2020.

And this NPR story describes how Green building now accounts for nearly one-third of new construction in the U.S. , up from 2 percent in 2005.  That’s tremendous growth in these project-heavy areas.  This means that more and more project managers will be needed.  And the ones who have a green vocabulary, and familiarity with Life Cycle Analysis, sustainability, and the concepts of green project management will find themselves with an advantage.

That really is SMART-ER!
