Phil is a highly skilled product development practitioner with a strong product management and manufacturing background. An Industrial Design graduate of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, he began his career in rapid product development with Arrk Corporation in London. Philip joined Freeplay Energy in 1998 and was instrumental in establishing in-house product design and development capabilities where, together with the Lifeline Energy, he and his team developed the revolutionary and award winning Lifeline Radio.
Several of his designs have been recognised by the Consumer Electronics Association in the USA for engineering and innovation excellence, winning the pre-eminent INDEX award for Design to Improve Life in 2009 and a finalist again in 2011. The Lifeplayer MP3 also received an Innovation award from the SAB Foundation in South Africa in 2011. In 2012 he was one of 19 social entrepreneurs to be awarded a scholarship to participate in the Global Social Benefit Incubator (GSBI) program at Santa Clara University in Silicon Valley. Philip brings a wealth of experience to LT in product manufacture, distribution and appropriate technology development for the developing world.
